Yuzawa in Niigata is famous for being the assumed setting of the classic Japanese novel “Snow Country” by Yasunari Kawabata. Learning this I decided to pick up an English copy of the book to quickly read on the way there as I knew I could enjoy the city more if I did. There were references to the book everywhere and even though a lot of time has passed since “Snow Country” was written the scenery was almost exactly as I expected it would be.
